LA
  • "To be a Good Teacher" essays are due on Monday, December 5 for both classes. Students need to follow the format discussed and practiced in class (introduction, 3 body paragraphs, conclusion).
SOCIAL
  • "Pressure to..." illustrations, which visually represent one of the pressures faced by the FNP during colonization, are due on Wednesday, Nov. 30th for 7B, and Thursday, Dec. 1 for 7A.

Parent-Teacher Interviews run today and Thursday.

Nov. 23

Students were sent home with report cards today. They need to return their signed envelopes tomorrow.

LA



  • Students are practicing their writing skills, focusing on the organization of paragraphs. We will be working on our first essay in the next few classes.
SOCIAL



  • We are looking at the pressures the FNP faced when colonization occurred.

LA
  • Progress reports need to be returned signed by tomorrow.
  • Students shared information about the books that they read, and are now focusing on the basics on sentence writing.
SOCIAL
  • Students negotiated with their classmates today. The conversation-level was very mature, and many found they could get what they wanted through discussion!

Nov. 16

LA
Students are beginning their writing unit. We are getting back to the basics, looking at sentence structure and paragraph writing.

SOCIAL
Tomorrow, students will be participating in a round-table negotiation activity, representing a group that they have researched. Their goal is to "get what they want."

SCIENCE
Topics 5 - 8 Exam is on Nov. 23. Students were given study guides today. We looked at density currents, and finished our "Altering Density" labs.

Nov. 8

Tomorrow is our Remembrance Day ceremony. The junior high program begins at 1:30. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend.

LA
  • Reading workshops are due on Monday, November 14.
  • Novel Elements Exam is on Thursday, November 10.
SOCIAL
  • Students are creating plays that demonstrate their understanding of British mercantilism. They will showing the video of these on Thursday, November 10th.
SCIENCE
  • Students tested the final version of their boats today. We will be continuing on with the concepts surrounding buoyancy.

LA


  • Please note date changes! The Elements of a Novel exam has been moved until Thursday, November 10th. Students will be sent home with a study guide today.

  • The deadline for the Reading Workshop projects has been extended until Monday, November 14th.

SOCIAL



  • Students have started to investigate mercantilism as a motivation for colonization. They will be working on short plays that demonstrate their understanding of the concept.

SCIENCE



  • Students will be testing the prototypes of their boats on Monday (We did not have class today), and will get an opportunity to make any changes necessary to have it support more weight in the second test.

SOCIAL
  • Students have been looking at the skills needed to survive as a colonist in the 1600s.
LA
  • Students have been working hard on their reading workshops. The project component of this assignment is open-ended, and so they have the option of how they'd like to present their learning. These projects are due on Nov. 9th.
  • The Novel Elements exam is on November 7th for 7A, and November 8th for 7B.
SCIENCE
  • students are currently investigating buoyancy, and are participating in a boat-making lab. The challenge is to see how much weight they can hold up on their boat, made of popsicle sticks and paper.
